Many community service groups provide resources for cancer patients such as transportation, meals, medical supplies and drug assistance, rent/ mortgage, utilities, credit counseling, employment, and crisis intervention.
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
The American Cancer Society (Road to Recovery) provides assistance, through volunteer drivers, with transportation to and from visits for patients in active treatment. You may also qualify to receive financial assistance in the purchase of prescription pain relieving, anti-inflammatory, and nausea medications. Application for support services may be made by the patient or family member, and is awarded on a case-by-case basis. WOMEN FOR WOMEN OF COBB
Assistance with non-medical expenses (rent, utilities, childcare, etc.) for women residing in Cobb County, actively engaged in cancer treatment. 770-426-0521 or 770-792-9111.
SOUTHEAST DISABILITY & BUSINESS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTER
SDBTAC is a federally-funded regional resource center set up to serve people with disabilities. Resources include information, materials, technical support, training, referrals for assistance.

HEATING ENERGY ASSISTANCE TEAM (H.E.A.T. PROGRAM)
H.E.A.T. offers assistance with paying heating bills. Contact your local Department of Children and Family Services (DFCS) office.
TELEPHONE LIFELINE AND LINKUP PROGRAMS
Telephone Lifeline and Linkup programs are coordinated by the local phone company business office as directed by the Georgia Public Service Commission (1-800-282-5813). These programs offer reduced cost telephone services for elderly and low-income households to access their community and emergency services. Persons age 60 and older may qualify for the lifeline program or a Senior Citizen discount from their local gas or power company. Low income families with no current telephone service may qualify for the "Linkup" program.
SALVATION ARMY’S PROJECT SHARE
Project Share provides assistance for individuals with an emergency, i.e., paying for energy, rental and/or medical bills. Contact your local Salvation Army office:

In counties where the Salvation Army does not maintain an office, the county Departments of Family and Children Services office handles applications.
ARMY COMMUNITY SERVICE
Army Community Service offers information, referral and follow-up, consumer affairs and financial assistance programs. THE ATLANTA URBAN LEAGUE, INC.
The Urban League offers rent/mortgage assistance, housing/default mortgage counseling. It also has programs for employment, job placement/development and training. For further information, call 404-659-1150
TRAVELERS AID OF METROPOLITAN ATLANTA, INC.
Travelers Aid is emergency, no-fee financial assistance and handicapped travel assistance. For further information, call 404-817-7070.
GEORGIA CHAPTER OF THE LEUKEMIA SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INC.
The Leukemia Society provides supplementary financial assistance to patients with Hodgkins disease, leukemia, the lymphomas, and multiple myeloma. Services include drugs used in treatment of these diseases (such as chemotherapy), costs associated with transfusions, transportation to and from a doctor’s office, hospital or treatment center (including mileage expense, parking, tolls, and taxi’s), and radiation therapy for cranial treatment associated with acute leukemia. Hot, nutritious meals are delivered to homebound older persons who are unable to prepare their own meals. Service is available Monday-Friday, coordinated by the Aging Connection. THE AGING CONNECTION
The Aging Connection is a telephone information referral service through which persons 60 years of age and older, or anyone calling on their behalf can be linked with appropriate service providers. It provides information related to housing, nutrition, employment, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, health care, community care, homemakers, sitters/companions, transportation, legal services, recreation, financial assistance, elder abuse, food stamps, nursing, Meals on Wheels. USO-UNITED WAY AGENCY
"First Call for Help" is the central referral service of USO-United Way - 404-614-1000. They provides crisis intervention, family support, social welfare assistance, emergency food, personal goods and transportation assistance. There are no restrictions.
THE COMMUNITY CARE SERVICES PROGRAM
Community Care Services provides community-based services as an alternative to institutionalization. These services are available to functionally impaired persons who meet certain Medicaid eligibility requirements. Programs include home-delivered services, homemaker aide services, emergency response services, respite care, adult day rehabilitation and alternative living services. SIXTY PLUS PROGRAM
Sixty Plus Program is a non-profit program coordinated by Piedmont Hospital Insurance Consulting Services, which offers assistance in filing and collecting Medicare and insurance supplement claims. It also gives assistance with policy interpretation and evaluating health insurance needs. Initial consulting fee and nominal charges apply for the filing of claims. Call 404-605-3819.
FUNDRAISING
Many patients find that their friends, family and community members are willing to help if they are aware of a difficult situation. The local library is a good source for information about how to organize fundraising efforts.
