Dr. Klass was born in Tuttlingen, West Germany, and she received her M.D./Ph.D. degree from Eberhard Karls Universitaet. In 1996 she was awarded a Research Fellowship Grant from the German Research Foundation and relocated to the United States as a Research Fellow in Cell Biology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.  Dr. Klass completed a residency in Internal Medicine and her fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology. Dr. Klass is married to Dr. Markus Klass, who is an Anesthesiologist at Emory University, and they have two daughters, Sophie and Anna. Dr. Klass is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.
